RANDOM FACTS

I use way too many exclamation marks, but I'm really just that excited!!!! I want to know what moves your heart. I say "that's so funny" quite a bit, but it can mean a number of things. I am a lover of donuts and tea. I floss every night before bed! I love the idea of being spontaneous, but rarely do things unplanned. I am the youngest of four girls, but I'm taller than all my sisters. I would love to open a cafe someday. I am fascinated by the bridegroom God and his ravished heart for all of humanity

I appreciate your friendship so much, Jess, and I can’t believe you’re moving so far away. SO. FAR. AWAY!

Jess is a writer and a soon-to-be designer (maybe). She is passionate about life and relationships and she gives herself to seeking out with is true.

Oh, Jess. I loved photographing you. You’re beautiful (inside-out, might I add) and so full of LIFE. I can’t wait for the next time I get to see you! : ) Blessings as you go!

    Shiloh’s 6 Months!

[“LIKE” this blogpost and leave a comment below to enter for another chance to win a FREE PHOTOSHOOT!]

I’m sure you all remember my adorable niece Shiloh from her newborn session and her 3 month shoot. She has grown SO much since then and I’m super excited to share these pictures with you : )

Two weeks ago my brother-in-law went out of town for a church conference so Eunice and Shiloh came to stay with me at my parents’ house (they were also out of town, so it was just the three of us..super fun!). Shiloh and I got to bond so much that week, my brother-in-law got super jealous! haha, jk Ben. But I did love bonding with her through napping and playing and even dancing in the middle of the night when she woke up for her feeding…my sister and I realized that was NOT a good idea when she got too excited and wouldn’t go back to sleep! haha

Do you think my sister and I look alike?! People used to think we were twins all the time. Anyway, wait til you see Shiloh’s cute lil’ swimsuit! Perfect for summer : )

I love you so much Shi! : )

    ANNA’S 6 MONTHS

[“LIKE” this blogpost and leave a comment below to enter for another chance to win a FREE PHOTOSHOOT!]

Wow, time really flies! Just last October I took pictures for Judy and Timmy’s baby shower, then for Anna’s 1 month, 3 months, and now here are her 6 months portraits! Seriously, I was so shocked when I first saw Anna for this shoot. I think the last time I saw her was a month before our session and WOW, what a difference one month can make! Anna didn’t seem like a baby anymore, but a mature little girl. I’m so glad I was and am able to capture all the stages of Anna’s life- kiddies just grow up too darn fast!

Don’t you love Anna’s floral shirt? So Cheery! And she’s sitting on her own now, full-on smiling : ) I love this little girl! Her facial expressions are adorable and just SO funny! I wonder what she will be like when she’s older : )

At the end of our shoot Judy suggested taking some pictures of me with baby Anna and I promised her I would post them as well : ) Thank you for such a fun session Timmy, Judy, and Anna! It’s always so great to catch up with you guys and play with your little one.

PORTRAIT SESSION WITH CANCER SURVIVOR MICHELLE FORD

[“LIKE” this blogpost from my website and leave a comment below to enter for another chance to win a FREE PHOTOSHOOT!]

Everyone meet Michelle, my friend and a fellow cheerleader from high school. Michelle and I were put in the same stunt group my Sophomore year (Michelle’s Freshman year) and I remember our days in cheer camp together, sweating and complaining (hehe), yelling and celebrating, and even that one time I punched one of the girls in our squad so hard her nose started bleeding (sorry Monica!). Of course that was an accident, and we still had so much fun. Ah, the good old days! : )

Michelle didn’t continue cheer after that year, but instead pursued her passion in soccer. Naturally, because I didn’t get to see her at practices everyday, we didn’t keep in touch as much as we had before. During my senior year, Michelle was diagnosed with cancer, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that I got to hear her story and all that she’s been through. You are such an inspiration to all, Michelle! For more on Michelle’s journey, read below.

Oh Michelle, you are beautiful! : )

    love this tattoo!

    From Michelle:

Just over five years ago I was hit with the news that I had a metastatic glomus jugular tumor. Don’t worry, I had no idea what that meant either. At just sixteen years old, on April 20, 2006, I went in to St. Vincent Hospital in LA to have a large benign blood-filled brain tumor removed behind my right ear. The sixteen-hour surgery must have been an amazing operation to witness, which would explain all the hospital staff in the Operating Room. I lost a lot of blood, but was given multiple blood transfusions while on the table, and the doctors managed to sacrifice only a few of the nerves on the right side of my face leaving me deaf and causing paralysis to the vocal cord and inside of the mouth. Immediately after surgery a body scan took place, and while I was in the ICU the doctors made a dreaded visit to the waiting room and told my family the news that I had over thirty other tumors in my bones: down my spine, ribs, and femurs.

The surgeries continued over the following six weeks. I had spinal rods put in to stabilize a collapsed vertebra, a vocal cord implant, and a feeding tube, just to name a few. After being in that hospital for six weeks, I was then transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where I began treatments.

“Where do we even start?” seemed to be the question on everyone’s mind. No one had ever seen this cancer before. My treatment cycles became an ongoing experiment, discarding every chemotherapy that did not have a dying effect on the tumors. I had different kinds of radiations and chemotherapies, and when none of those worked I was asked to be a part of a clinical trial in Iowa, and I was the last patient to make it in before being submitted to the FDA. It seems it must have worked because just months later, on February 26, 2008, my scans showed dormant, non-active tumors throughout my body. Treatments stopped, but I was still given a Zometa infusion to strengthen my bones over the following year. My oncologist said if the tumors are not growing, then there is no need to continue treatments. I may just go through life with dead tumors everywhere.

As of April 20, 2011, I have undergone sixteen surgeries. I have become quite the pro when dealing with pain and needles. With a cancer in which no one else in the world has, we celebrate five years of fighting! Through all the ups, downs, pains, surgeries, depression, anger, loneliness, bitterness, and frustration, I would not change one thing about the last six years of my life. It was so hard letting go of the girl I was before the diagnosis, but who I am today is so much more than I ever could have been without this experience. God has used me in unimaginable ways, and will continue to do so until His work in me is done.

“I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!'” (Isaiah 6:8)

All I have wanted to do over the last few years is help other young cancer patients, like myself, get through these trials without feeling alone and misunderstood. I went through four years of feeling that way, and I feel that it is my calling to make sure that no other cancer patient ever feels the way I did. God somehow made me strong enough to get through those tough times on my own. The people He has put in my life today made it so worth the wait.

I am now twenty-one years old, and I attend Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where I am studying to be a sign language interpreter while taking classes for my GE. When I graduate I hope to transfer to UCLA and study psychology and focus on my writing. I would like to become a psychologist and work with cancer patients, and I also hope to write a book about my cancer journey, which I am in the process of writing right now.

I want to thank Eileen for putting together this shoot to celebrate my life. It had been years since we saw each other back in high school, and was an absolute pleasure being photographed by her. She has such a beautiful heart and outlook on life, and God is using her in so many ways. Love you, Eileen.

Oh Michelle, I so enjoyed getting to catch up with you and hearing your story through this session. You are truly, truly, an inspiration to everyone! I am so proud of you, girl! Love you tons!

    Family Session with the Egglestons!

Kathy and I had been exchanging emails for quite some time before we finally met up for our family session last month. We spent our time at their beautiful home and I really love how intimate these images turned out. It was so great to finally meet this family that I had been emailing back and forth with and what a pleasure it was to photograph a slice of their lives!
Kyli is adorable! A little shy at first, but she quickly warmed up to me as we played with her Hello Kitty doll. And here is the beautiful family below. Kathy’s husband’s name is Keith, which makes 3 K’s in the family. They joked about needing to have another child so they wouldn’t be referred to as KKK.
Kathy is full Chinese, but doesn’t she also look mixed?! I totally thought so : ) and here, Kyli enjoying the swing! I love the way she just comes alive on this thing!
I love the way Kyli looks up at her Mama.
I was so happy to hear that Kyli asked for “Auntie” the day after our shoot- she is just the cutest thing! : ) Thank you for such a wonderful session Kathy, Keith, and Kyli! I enjoyed meeting you all. Bless you guys!

    Senior Portraits with Maika

Maika is the sweetest girl in the art department. I think we first met in our ceramics class (is that right, Maika?! It’s been so long! haha) and I automatically fell in love with her colorful personality and playful spirit (her outfit for this shoot couldn’t have matched her personality better!). Maika is from New Zealand and has the coolest/cutest accent ever– I love listening to her talk! What a pleasure it was to photograph this sweet girl and hang out with her before she moves to Japan early next month. Thank you for such a fun session Maika! : )

Oh Maika, you are way too cute! I love your laugh : ) And check this little guy out. Maika bought this stuffed animal (amphibian?!) frog when she first came to the U.S. He has been with her throughout the four years at UCLA. I love the little graduation hat she bought for him : )

now, some with Maika and her graduation hat…
oh, and THIS book! The book we all loved oh so much! haha. That’s one thing I don’t miss for sure!
A HUGE congrats on your graduation, Maika. What a great accomplishment! I am so proud of you and am SO excited for your new season in Japan. Keep in touch, and I’m totally looking forward to the next time I get to see you : )

    Senior Portraits with Jenny Davis

I was a nervous wreck that afternoon. I stood outside the classroom awkwardly, not really sure what to do with myself and the extra fifteen minutes I had before class started. I sort of felt out of place standing there in the art department and I’m sure those who were waiting with me must have known I wasn’t an art major by how uncomfortable I must have looked (and if they didn’t know it then, they did when I started asking lots and lots of questions). Jenny was among the few waiting with me that day. I remember she was wearing a green floral shirt and desperately trying to make some kind of connection with the art majors, I told her my favorite color was green, haha. Jenny was so kind, though, and super patient with me. She calmly explained what the classes were like and told me I was going to be ok. I don’t even know if you remember all of that, Jenny, but til this day, I’m so thankful for your kindness! : )
I’m so glad I got into the art major that year, because- well one, I wouldn’t be here photographing these amazing people if I didn’t, and two, because I wouldn’t have met and gotten to know these amazing people..people like Jenny.
So where do I begin with Jenny Davis? You already know that she’s kind, but she’s also an amazing artist and talented fashion designer. I was able to photograph her line at UCLA’s FAST Spring Fashion Show a few weeks back, and WOW, I was SO impressed with her work! You can check out her designs on my facebook album here. And now ladies and gentlemen, Jenny Davis!
you are so cute Jenny! : )

this camera belonged to Jenny’s mom! : )

and of course, we had to take some photos by the Serra sculpture!

Jenny, you’re beautiful! Congrats on your graduation- I’m so proud of you! I’m so excited for where your talents and amazing personality will take you. Best of luck! : )

    The Lius!

I can’t wait to tell you about the Lius. They’re not only cool because we share the same last name, hehe, but because they’re super serious about photoshoots! I met up with the Liu Family two separate times (the first time it was way too sunny!) and both times they had brand new outfits on (with accessories and all!). I was so touched by how much they put into preparing for our photoshoot. Thank you!
Our first session was my first time meeting the Lius. While I was gathering my bags after I parked outside of their house, I saw three little figures running out towards me. Julianna (their mommy) later told me the kiddies were wondering whether I had long or short hair so they ran out to say hello and find out! How cute is that?! haha. And now, the Lius!
The kiddies have their own little garden in the backyard where they have green onions, strawberries, and baby tomatoes growing!
and look at these birdhouses they painted!
Oh, and let me tell you what was going on while we took these next two shots. SO funny! Andrew’s mommy asked who these flowers were for..maybe for his girlfriend? At the mention of her name this HUGE smile came upon Andrew’s face. I had such a fun time teasing him about it- look how embarrassed he got! So cute : ) and now, some of my favorites from our first session together… Thank you for two wonderful sessions! I loved meeting you guys : )

SNEAK PEEKS from the month of May!

May was a very busy month for me. I’m a bit worn out and in need of some good rest. SoooOoo, I’ll be heading off to Kansas City tomorrow to visit my oldest sister Emily and will not be back until June 1oth. My whole family (minus mommy and daddy) will be visiting, too, and I can’t wait to just relax, hang-out, and eat! I really wanted to write another post tonight, but my eyes are about to pop out (that would NOT be good) and I also need to pack! So instead, I’m leaving you with some sneak peeks from this month..the posts will be up soon, so stay tuned for more pictures! : )

    Portrait Session with Loretta Wang

Being a photographer can be sort of lonely at times. I spend hours and hours of my day sitting in front of the computer replying to emails, editing photos, posting on facebook, blogging…it’s kind of intense, you know what I mean? And so it’s always nice to have other photographers around to bounce off ideas and to chat with, while replying to emails, editing photos, posting on facebook, blogging..! Loretta is a dear friend of mine AND a fellow photographer (check out her stuff here!) and I get so excited every time we get to meet up to catch-up or to work together at a nearby cafe. Lor, you’re just that refreshing! : )
Loretta might look familiar to some of you and that’s because she practically knows the whole world! It’s true! hehe. Our group of friends joke about this a lot, because she knows at least one person at every restaurant/hang-out place we go to. Loretta just graduated from Fullerton and will be officially launching her photography business this year (can i get a woot woot?!). She wanted to get some pictures with her graduation gown and some headshots for her website…and of course, a few with Jade.
Everyone say hello to Jade, Loretta’s dog! I usually don’t like animals (I know, I knoooow..I have cold heart!), but I do like Jade! She was so cute during our shoot and SO shy! Every time I had the camera up she’d look away, haha.
After we wore Jade out we busted out the cap and gown!…Loretta graduated a year later than the rest of her class because she took a year off to go on missions in Africa. How cool is that? So proud of you Lor! : )
Now, a change of clothes and a change of location! Loretta, you look SO GOOD!
    Gosh, Lor…you’re glowing!
and now some with her camera! I love love LOVE these next shots…
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, Lor! Whoever you end up with will be a lucky man indeed : ) I’m super excited for all the exciting things ahead of you…I am rooting for you all the way, girl!
I’ll be shooting a wedding for my high school friend this Saturday and Loretta will be coming with me! Check back for a sneak peek! : )
